Starting Devon Thatching Ltd

2005

Expanding The Company

2007 -Present

As the business grew, Rob employed both labourers and thatchers to support him with his thatching projects. Most favourably, Rob employed his younger brother Richard. Starting as an apprentice, Richard trained up as a thatcher under Rob's guidance. Now the brothers pride themselves on high quality thatching together and continue to work on every project Devon Thatching Ltd complete, offering Rob’s individual expertise, finesse and experience.

Rob's first thatching job was in Winkleigh village.

Devon Thatching Ltd quickly picked up business and have worked on a wide variety of projects across Devon, ranging from bird tables to stunning country manors. Each project being individual and unique.

The Journey

2000 - 2005

Following his graduation and whilst working with local thatchers, Rob's passion for thatching and exceptional workmanship quickly earned Rob a highly commended reputation. Although offered a number of jobs in the field, Rob's desire was to build his own company. Rob went on to set up Devon Thatching Ltd in 2001.

Robert Wilmott's (Rob) passion for thatching was established when he was 16 and working as a labourer for a local thatcher. He learnt quickly and possessed a natural talent for the craft.

Following an application to Knuston Hall Thatching College in Northampton, Rob was accepted on a two year apprenticeship, graduating with a City & Guilds level 2 qualification and also CITB Construction qualification.
